The Journey to Ta’if

English1 min read

17.The Journey to Ta’if.

After Abu Talib’s death, the Messenger of Allah suffered more than before. Now with the death of his uncle, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was without protection and therefore open to attack and abuse.

When the insults of the Quraish became unbearable, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) decided to go to Ta’if, a city about 45 miles from Makkah, to call the people to Islam. He first went to the leaders of Ta’if, but contrary to his expectation, they were very rude to him and refused to accept his message. They incited the street mob to shout abuse at the Prophet (peace be upon him)and to pelt him with stones. The pelting continued for approximately three miles making the Prophet’s body flow with blood.

Even after such hardships, when the angels came to ask permission from the Prophet (peace be upon him) to crush the people of the city, he (peace be upon him) out of his mercy, said “No”, hoping that one day their children would embrace Islam.
